Week 6 - Esolangs and Ports
After the reading, I still find it hard to decide upon a favorite port, but if I had to choose, it would be the Perl/Javascript port, as it was the most similar to Java and C#, while my least favorite was the Applesoft/Basic port, as it was the least similar. The book says that the port proved problematic, due to the non grid-like nature of the program as /\ was not the same length as // (although it was eventually fixed using Unicode and PETSCII characters).
Esolangs are programming languages used to test the boundaries of computer programming language design. Its has multiple purposes, from being art, tools, new software or even just a joke. My favorite one was “Malbolge,” named after the 8th layer of hell it is a jumble of esoteric letters that seem to form no coherent meaning. I really liked how the way “Hello World” is printed, is by using (=<`#9]~6ZY32Vx/4Rs+0No-&Jk)"Fh}|Bcy?`=*z]Kw%oG4UUS0/@-ejc(:'8dc.
